Maria Elina Méndez is an Image and Sound Designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina with a passion for anything to do with the Visual Arts. Working mostly with pencils, Maria creates a sweet little world where ‘the animals and people live and dance together in perfect harmony.’ There’s also an abundance of bears and other furry animals in sweaters and scarves, which is always quite nice. My favourites though, are these lovely drawings of animals and people placed in the random pages of a book. Check out more of Maria’s work on her website and blog, and also her etsy store where you can purchase some pretty tee’s and prints!

You may not know the name, but you would know the amazing artist behind it. Shaun Tan is a Perth born, Melbourne residing artist and film maker, renowned for his children’s illustrations and incredible creative vision. Oh, and he’s won an Oscar (last year for the short animated film The Lost Thing), and was a concept artist for WALL-E. No biggie.

”Most of my time is spent writing and illustrating picture books, which have reached a broad readership in Australia and overseas, having been translated into several languages. While I describe them as ‘picture books’, they are not created with children in mind, but rather a general audience. I see each book as an experiment in visual and written narrative, part of an ongoing exploration of this fascinating literary form.”

I adore that things like this are being preserved and re-appreciated by a new generation!
